Early Numbers From the Serengeti

The governments of Tanzania and Kenya released some of the preliminary data from our surveys in the Serengeti region

A total of over 8,045 elephants were counted in the Serengeti-Mara Ecosystem showing an increase compared with 1986 data, according to an article in East African Business Week

The count in this region was carefully orchestrated as a joint effort between Kenya and Tanzania. Counting on the cross-border area in the same time period allowed for improved data gathering and interpretation, which will better inform on-going management decisions, and ultimately sustainable wildlife conservation.
