Naledi: A Baby Elephant's Tale Premieres on Netflix

Born on a starry summer night in 2013, Naledi (which means “star” in Setswana) was orphaned just six weeks later when her mother passed away. Workers at Abu Camp, a safari lodge and elephant research center in Botswana, sprang into action to save the baby elephant’s life as she struggled to survive without her mother’s milk.

This story, Naledi: A Baby Elephant’s Tale, premieres today on Netflix. It’s the heartwarming account of a baby elephant’s will to beat the odds.

But Naledi’s struggle and resilience are not hers alone. Across Africa, elephants fight for survival, falling prey to poachers and shrinking range at the rate of one every 15 minutes, up to 30,000 per year, according to the Great Elephant Census.

At this rate, elephants could be extinct in as little as 10 years.

We hope you watch the film and fall in love with Naledi’s charisma, but we also hope you come to understand the urgency of the campaign to keep her and all elephants alive.
